General Meeting – September 17, 2019

Call To Order:

  • Meeting called to order at 6:36 p.m. Members were welcomed and thanked for coming.
  • Old Business-Prior Minutes Approval: none since first meeting of the year

Officer Reports

  • V.P. Membership (Aluanu Moore): 210 members. $1350 in donations. Ms. Riffle won membership contest.
  • V.P. Ways and Means (Erin Shonkwiler):
    1. Boosterthon pep rally was today. Race is Sept 27. Goal is $20,000 this year.
    2. Liberty Gym 10/11
  • Secretary’s Report (Marianne Horstman): No update.
  • Treasurer (Tara Stugill): Budget approval for 2019/2020. Steam budget now included in Family fun. Budget motion approved by Melissa Hines and seconded by Cara Walls.
  • President (Shannon Tritsch): Scholastic dollars from last year spent on STEAM supplies. It was about $4000. Mrs. Swierski has picked out playground equipment that’s $55,000 to replace old equipment. PTA fundraisers will go to help pay for it. Her goal is to have it installed next summer. So far $10,000 was left over from last year that PTA is giving to the school so that could possibly be used for specials so all students can benefit from it. Cara suggested indoor playground equipment. 5th grade teachers present (Ms. Dietrich and Ms. Gragg) suggested Legos or board games and indoor carts to store them in.

  • Scholastic Book Fair (Samantha Bosley, Pam Lewis, Erika Kozlowski and Veronica Goodman)- October 21st and 23rd – Samantha met with Scholastic yesterday.
  • Supply Packs (Emily Bleier): No update
  • Spirit Wear (Kristen Goeke): She will do a PTA shirt if requested. Shirt orders were delivered this week. Doesn’t have final money total made. Next round will be in winter, kept simple though. Will set up at conferences.
  • Conference Meals (Liza Edwards and Laci): October 21st and 23rd – $1000 budget total for both conferences.
  • Restaurant Nights (Erin Shonkwiler): a. Yogurtini in August made $238. b. Chipotle made less this year than last year. Made $339 c. October 9th Culver’s 5-8pm (10% of all customers)
  • Family Fun (Tiffany Schrader, Erica Kozlowski and Pam Lewis)- Trunk or Treat October 27th from 2- 4pm. Prizes for 1st and 2nd place trunks. Trying to get local restaurant gift cards for prizes and possibly getting food trucks to come. Working on possibly having a concession stand too. Candy can be donated so PTA can provide it if we run out or for future events. Sign up genius will go out in beginning of October.

  • United Way (Erinn Gragg and Breana Dietrich)- United Way week is same week as Halloween so no tailgate this year. Want to have the basket auction at Trunk or Treat event instead.
  • Suggested to get 5th grade recognition shirts before the end of the year so kids can wear them more than just the last month of school. Will go ahead and order shirts now.

Call To Order

  • Meeting called to order at 7:00 p.m. Members were welcomed and thanked for coming.
  • Old Business-Prior Minutes Approval: Wendy Smith made a motion to approve the minutes Mrs. Swierski seconded that motion.

Officer Reports

  • V.P. Membership (Jill Hellevang): 182 members with one new member added.
  • V.P. Ways and Means (Wendy Smith): Trash bags will be delivered at 3:00 p.m. Help will be needed to unpack. There are a few extra to sell at the book fair.
  • Secretary’s Report (Melissa Hines): No Update
  • Treasurer (Ingrid Bracken): CiCi’s nights earned $123. Mrs. Saffell won for March. April class for Mrs. Herndon. The expense of $136 for envelopes for trash bag sales will be eliminated the following year. $60 was raised for Best Choice labels. $610 field trip expense incurred for 5th grade along with $200 for Chik-fil-a for parent-teacher conference night.

  • 5th Grade Recognition (Dawn Schwalm): Kona Ice will be there. Combining with a picnic on the last day of school.
  • Box Tops/Labels/Coke Points (Tawni Bross/Miranda Miles):
  • Yearbook (Amie Veach): 477 yearbooks sold with 48 yearbooks donated. 30 were needed with 18 carried over to the following year.
  • Staff Appreciation (Kristen Goeke/Jennifer Smith): Week of May 7-11.
    • Various things include: Potato Bar, Pasta Bar, Barista, Salad Bar, Massage Therapist, and Taco day. Several donations were provided by various companies. Parents requested to donate non-perishables.
  • Testing Treats (Mindy Heutinck): MAP testing treats for each day of testing. Grilling event held. All were able to get their food prior to weather becoming unstable.

  • President (Emily Bleier): Dallas Ackerman will be coming to speak about the April Bond issue.

    • Received $10,000 from capital expenditure budget for furniture for the pods to make more collaborative with mobile white boards to help bring the learning out into the pods to kick off the fall school year.
    • 5th grader now does morning announcements.
    • 3rd Grade MAP testing begins 04/02 with 5th grade 4/16-27 and 4th grade 5/1-11.

  • Box Tops/Labels/Coke Points (Tawni Bross/Miranda Miles): Mrs. Collin’s class won the last game pack. Last one for school year.
  • Yearbook (Amie Veach): 416 yearbook orders have been submitted with 37 yearbooks donated.
  • Staff Appreciation (Kristen Goeke/Jennifer Smith): Working actively on the plan. Looking for business donations or sponsorship for the day.

New Business

  • Kindergarten teachers have requested to attend the Younger Year’s conference that is targeted to pre-K and Kindergarten in March 8-10. Looking for travel and lodging expenses. PTA would reimburse the school district. $191 for car. $196 for lodging. District gives $46 per diem per day. Looking at $550 total cost.
  • In addition, another request for Wilson Foundation starting skills supplies is needed in the amount of $791. Ingrid made motion to vote. Emily seconded the motion. All were in favor. Quorom was present.

Call To Order

  • Meeting called to order at 7:02 p.m. Members were welcomed and thanked for coming.
  • Old Business: From the prior meeting for Wilson Reading Materials the request from the original approval of $1022 went up by $277.50 for Wilson materials. Melissa made a motion to increase by $277.50 bringing the total to $1299.50. Emily Bleier seconded the motion. All present voted in favor verbally.
  • Prior Minutes Approval: Niki Fosberg made a motion to approve, Tawni Bross seconded

Officer Reports

  • V.P. Membership (Jill Hellevang): Looking to add a Membership committee.
  • V.P. Ways and Means (Wendy Smith): Some available trash bags for sale left over from prior fundraiser.
  • Secretary’s Report (Melissa Hines): Reminder of the Holiday Shop December 7 at 4:30-7:30 p.m. Would like more volunteers.
  • Treasurer (Ingrid Bracken): October $560 came in for new memberships. November an additional 2 members were added. Spiritwear, the last invoice was paid. October $178 was raised from CiCi’s nights.

Call To Order

  • Meeting called to order at 7:01 p.m. Members were welcomed and thanked for coming.
  • Old Business: We made the goal of $20,000. Around ~$1000 is outstanding to be turned in. Principal and Vice Principal were on wheels on a golf cart and bicycle for the day. Would like to know the student population that actually participated.

Officer Reports

  • V.P. Membership (Jill Hellevang): 12 new members in September. Another 45 members were added at parent-teacher conferences. 176 members now in the PTA which is over 30 from the prior year.
  • V.P. Ways and Means (Wendy Smith): Discussed Spring fundraiser for trash bags.
  • Secretary’s Report (Melissa Hines): No Update
  • Treasurer (Ingrid Bracken): Paid $459 to the Missouri PTA for membership. $18,500 profit on Boosterthon. $182 from prior year made on Supply packs.
  • President (Emily Bleier): LCHAT.org (Liberty Community Health Team) to increase healthy activities.
  • Principal (Mrs. Swierski): 1st quarter is over. 2nd qtr is off to a great start. Looking into personalized learning. Discussed bringing in a speaker regarding the safety of children.

    from last book fair. $267 raised for All for books.

New Business

  • Emily Bleier made a motion to vote for 2 field trips per grade level. Melissa 2nd that motion. All voted in favor.
  • Mrs. Saffell whom has previously become a Wilson Dyslexia instructor has successfully learned a lot from the Wilson reading program. Mrs. Hayes, Mrs. Stocks, Mrs. Andino requested additional funds for the Wilson Reading system to add additional resources to further assist in the teaching efforts. Parent spoke to her child whose reading level was not at level. Historically had taken to multiple tutors, The Learning Center; however, those sessions continued to not work. Could not comprehend the sounding of the words. Mrs. Saffell worked with the student over a couple years using the Wilson reading program techniques and he was able to understand and apply the rules to be able to read and speak.

    • Mrs. Stocks: $325.00
    • Mrs. Andino: $480.00
      • Total $1022
  • Melissa Hines made a motion to vote to cover the Wilson Reading materials in the amount of $1022. Emily Bleier 2nd that. All voted in favor.

Call To Order

  • Meeting called to order at 7:00 p.m. Members were welcomed and thanked for coming.
  • Old Business:
    • Booster-thon is present. Will do the kick-off. Run will be 09/29. Target goal is to raise $20,000. For every $30 there is a donation to the hurricane relief. Total overall the company is lookingto raise $75,000 to donate for the Kansas City metro locations.
    • Maker space in room #9 is up and ready. Including the support from PTA. Still open to donations that are listed on the Warren Hills website.
  • Prior Minutes Approval: Jill Hellevang made a motion to approve, Kari Lund 2nd the motion

Officer Reports

  • V.P. Membership (Jill Hellevang): Square was available to accept credit cards. 108 members signed up in August with 8 more in September. Discussion to push membership. Ideas include: have a table at the parent-teacher conferences, discuss at car-rider line, have contests per classroom, etc.
  • V.P. Ways and Means (Wendy Smith): Get signed up for Booster-thon. There will be a K-2 9:30 a.m. run and a 3-5 run at 10:45 a.m.
  • Secretary’s Report (Melissa Hines): No Update
  • Treasurer (Ingrid Bracken): Melissa Hines made a motion to approve the budget for 2017-18. Tawni Bross 2nd that motion.
  • President (Emily Bleier): Coffee with the community, once a month, with the Superintendent. (Also on the Quick news). Proficiency guide for the new report cards accessible on the Liberty Public Schools site along with a You Tube video.
  • Principal (Mrs. Swierski): Dr. Krohne and Mrs. Swierski will have a day on wheels if the fundraising goal is met. Discussed preference to send out weekly parent communications. For volunteer needs sending out request via Sign-up Genius.

  • Scholastic Book Fair (Ingrid Bracken): Same night as Parent-Teacher conference. Students will do a preview of the books. Sign-up genius will be sent out to request volunteers. If you volunteer, you will receive a $6 credit towards a book.

  • Conference Meals (Jennifer Troxler): Discussed having food trucks again.
  • CiCi’s (Meva Williams): Next is Oct. 12th Need to find the traveling trophy and publicize class winner.
  • Reflections (Kari Lund): In the fall submit a piece of art, movie, poem, etc. Work submitted in December with an online judging form and then sent to the State level for awards. Looking for more student participation. Theme is “Within Reach”
  • Cultural Arts (Mrs. Herl):
  • 5th Grade Recognition ([Name]): Several volunteered.
  • Box Tops/Labels/Coke Points (Tawni Bross/Miranda Miles): Coke points has ended. Campbell’s labels for education has been phased out. Added Best Choice labels though 1000 labels are needed prior to first submission. Fall Oct. 18th is the fall end date.

  • A grant request was submitted. Tickets are around $5 along with the transportation fees. Release date is November 17th. Looking for a match on the grant $500. Tawni Bross made a motion to vote for matching the grant of $500. Kari Lund 2nd the motion.
